Former President Donald Trump will launch his social media app, TRUTH Social, that he said would “stand up to Big Tech” companies such as Twitter and Facebook that have banned him from their platforms.TRUTH Social will be created through a new company formed by Trump Media and Technology Group and a unique acquisition company. The social network, set for a beta launch next month and full rollout in 2022, is the first of three stages in the company’s plans, followed by a subscription video-on-demand service called TMTG+ that will feature entertainment news and podcasts, according to the news release. He said the platform would “stand up to the tyranny of big tech,” accusing them of silencing opposing voices in the US.

Social media played a pivotal role in Mr. Trump’s bid for the White House and was his favorite means of communication as president. But Mr. Trump was banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook after his supporters stormed the US Capitol.

Social media firms were under pressure throughout Mr. Trump’s presidency to ban him, with his posts criticized as insulting, inflammatory, or peddling outright falsehoods. “I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” Trump said in the statement.
