Dr. Oz tosses in his bid for a Pennsylvania Senate seat

61-year-old cardiothoracic surgeon and forerunner of The Dr. Oz Show, Mehmet Oz, more commonly known as Dr. Oz, has entered into Pennsylvania’s Senate election. His entrance into the race comes after Trump-endorsed Sean Parnell exited the race due to a lost custody battle and his ex-wife’s accusations of abuse.

Oz announced his candidacy over Twitter and later on gave his reasoning as, “During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That’s why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal.” He’ll be entering as a Republican, facing Jeff Bartos and Carla Sands, among others, in the upcoming primaries.

The race will end on November 8 of 2022, leaving the question of whether or not he’ll stay in contention up in the air for some forthcoming months.
