Sandwiches- To Have or Have Not a Pickle

Robert Cowser

Sandwiches are a great snack either on the road or during a picnic. But did you know there are many more facts about sandwiches than you think? Sandwiches were named after John Montagu, who was crazed for eating beef between two slices of toast. The first recorded use of the word ‘Sandwich’ was in 1762 by Edward Gibbon, writing the Beefsteak Club in London. In the United States, people eat an estimated 300 million sandwiches every day and, on average, about one a day for every American. An estimated percentage of 60% of sandwiches sold globally are hamburgers which means about 40% are made into sandwiches.
