Morbius Disappoints

MOVIE REVIEW

Sony’s Morbius, released on April 1, 2022, best described as an action/adventure film with a twinge of horror, seems to have bitten the dust with critics. Starring Jared Leto, Michael Morbius tries to rid himself of a blood disease but takes experimentation too far, resulting in a newfound appetite for human blood. Morbius faces a companion-turned-enemy in Loxias Crown, played by Matt Smith.

Though not very well received, only totaling up a grand 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, Morbius did decently in its box office debut, earning $39.1 million for its opening weekend.

Overall, the movie wasn’t as gratifying as Venom and the recent Spider-Man films; however, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it was portrayed. While the effects on Morbius and Loxias’ faces seemed a bit overdone, they didn’t detract from the grand scheme. The dimly lit scenes were still explicit and, if anything, helped create a creepy atmosphere. Morbius was a pleasant action film with a slight terror that most wouldn’t regret watching.
