Point of View: Deli Worker

Robert Cowser

Some people wonder what it’s like working at the store here in Cimarron. I work in the deli part of the whole store, and it’s kind of an easy job apart from the constant stress of taking phone calls and taking orders for Hunt Brother’s Pizza which is mostly the place I work. I work mainly closing shifts, and sometimes we don’t even get out to our vehicles till almost 9:47 PM because there is a lot to keep up with when you don’t get too busy. Again it’s an easy job if you don’t mind the constant “Deli Line,” whatever line it is on. The other employees are friendly, and I know most of them because I go to school with them and some are family friends.

It pays well, and right now, I’m earning about $8 an hour after working there since October of last year. Gordon, the owner, is the nicest guy you’ll meet. It gets busy from time to time, like, for example, any in-town games or meets and wherever a holiday comes around. If I remember correctly, we sold about 5 cases of pizza when Christmas came around. I enjoy being back there, and it keeps me busy, which is a good thing.
