Rescinding of Roe v Wade

Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” The United States Supreme Court appears to have voted to rescind Roe v. Wade in a leaked draft of Associate Justice Samuel Alito’s majority opinion.

Acknowledging Roe v. Wade’s ever-present questioning of the constitutionality of mixing religion with government, Alito starts, “Abortion presents a profound moral issue on which Americans hold sharply conflicting views.”

Upon further explaining, he continues, “We hold that Roe and [Casey v. Planned Parenthood] must be overruled.” He elaborates on this, saying “[the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment] has been held to guarantee some rights that are not mentioned in the Constitution, but any such right must be ‘deeply rooted in this Nation’s history and tradition’ and ‘implicit in the concept of ordered liberty…The right to abortion does not fall within this category.”

The ultimate decision has yet to be made public and should be expected within the following months. The revival of this case is set to make waves, as just the draft has sent Roe v. Wade supporters reeling.

The Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority had made many expect a slow whittling away of abortion rights, not an outright overturning, as appears to be imminent.
